Representative Jim Jordan of Ohio is calling for answers—and this time, he’s pointing directly at former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Jordan is demanding an investigation into Pelosi’s role surrounding the events of January 6, 2021, as well as into the controversial actions of the now-disbanded January 6 Committee, once led by Democrats.
In a brief exchange with CNN’s Manu Raju, Jordan wasted no time criticizing the original committee’s motives. “You know what this is really about,” Jordan said. “It’s not about getting to the truth. It’s about taking down Donald Trump—again.”
Jordan argued that Democrats have used the Capitol riot as a political tool to avoid addressing real issues—rising crime, inflation, the border crisis. “They’d rather keep going after Trump than talk about what Americans are actually struggling with,” he added.
Meanwhile, Georgia Congressman Barry Loudermilk revealed that House Speaker Mike Johnson plans to formalize a new committee dedicated to digging deeper into January 6—but this time, with Republicans at the helm.
Though the committee’s final structure is still being finalized, Loudermilk hinted it would likely give Speaker Johnson more control over the group’s direction and membership. The aim? Reassess the events of that day, as well as examine the conduct of the original January 6 panel—including whether key security failures were ignored in favor of political messaging.
Loudermilk has already authored a report recommending criminal charges against former Representative Liz Cheney for her role on the committee. He claims the Democrat-led group “was so laser-focused on blaming Trump, it failed to look at other institutional failures.”
Speaker Johnson has publicly committed to fully funding this new investigation, ensuring it has the backing to go wherever the evidence leads.
According to CNN, this is part of a broader Republican effort to restart and expand politically sensitive probes from the previous Congress—many of which stalled due to legal challenges. These include renewed subpoenas targeting Justice Department officials involved in the Hunter Biden investigation and Special Counsel Robert Hur’s inquiry into President Biden’s handling of classified documents.
Adding more fuel to the fire, former President Biden recently issued a small batch of high-profile pardons before leaving office. Among them were Dr. Anthony Fauci and former Congresswoman Liz Cheney—both of whom were heavily involved in pandemic response and the January 6 Committee, respectively.
But legal analysts point out that these pardons, while politically strategic, won’t shield the recipients from testifying if subpoenaed—nor will they protect anyone from consequences if they lie under oath. Attorney Jesse Binnall, once part of Trump’s legal team, noted that the pardons might even make it easier to compel testimony.
“Great news,” Binnall wrote on X. “Anyone pardoned can no longer hide behind the Fifth Amendment.”
As Republicans tighten their grip on Capitol Hill, it’s clear they’re not done with January 6. But this time, they’re asking who else should be answering the hard questions—and whether Pelosi herself might be among them.
