Texas Teen Faces Murder Charge After Deadly High School Track Meet Incident

A high school track meet in Frisco, Texas, turned deadly on April 2, 2025, when a confrontation between two teenagers ended in the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf. The incident occurred at Kuykendall Stadium during a district-level competition hosted at Frisco High School.

The accused, 17-year-old Karmelo Anthony, a student at Centennial High School, was taken into custody at the scene and is now facing a murder charge. Authorities say Karmelo admitted to the stabbing, claiming it was an act of self-defense during a fight that broke out following a heated exchange.

Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis confirmed that Karmelo will not be eligible for the death penalty or a sentence of life without parole, citing the Supreme Court’s 2005 ruling in Roper v. Simmons, which prohibits such punishments for juveniles. If convicted, Karmelo could serve anywhere from five to 99 years in prison.

The incident has shocked the local community, casting a shadow over what was meant to be a spirited day of athletic competition.
