Kelly Clarkson Pushes Back After Backlash Over NFL and Taylor Swift Coverage

Kelly Clarkson is standing by her recent remarks urging the NFL to shift its focus back to football rather than centering coverage around Taylor Swift and her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

The 42-year-old singer and talk show host, who became a household name after winning American Idol’s first season in 2002, now helms The Kelly Clarkson Show, a daily program known for its feel-good stories, live music, games, and surprise moments.

The controversy began after Clarkson made a comment on her show that many interpreted as criticism of the NFL’s frequent highlighting of Swift during game broadcasts. The reaction online was swift and divided.

Critics didn’t hold back, with one viewer writing, “I didn’t know Kelly was a hater,” and another adding, “This makes you sound jealous, Kelly.” A separate comment read: “Taylor is bringing global attention to the NFL. Kelly Clarkson and others should be thankful.”

Still, Clarkson found plenty of support as well. One fan shared, “I don’t watch football, but if I did, it’d be for the game, not the celebrity side.” Another chimed in: “I love Taylor and the NFL, but I tune in for the sport itself.” A third added, “I’m a Swiftie and watch some football, but the NFL is definitely overdoing it.”

Despite the mixed feedback, Clarkson’s point resonated with many who feel the sports coverage should remain focused on the field, not the stands.
